ПОТАМКУАСТЕЛ - КАЛЕТО КРАЙ СРЕДЕЦ
Късноантичната и средновековна крепост Калето се намира 2км югозападно от центъра на град Средец. Кале на турски означава крепост. Построена е в края на V началото на VI век. През IX - X век е известна под името Потамукастел. Крепостта е разположена върху равното било на средно висок хълм от веригата на Странджанските предпланини. От всички страни хълмът е заобиколен от стръмни склонове, само от югозапад, чрез тясна седловина се свързва с останалата част от масива. В северното подножие на хълма е преминавала река Средецка, чието корито през средата на XX в. е изместено с 400 m на север. Крепостната стена е следвала конфигурацията на терена по билото на хълма, като е затваряла площ от 18 дка с елипсовидна форма. До сега от крепостта са проучени югозападната стена с главната порта и две правоъгълни кули. Също така са проучени и части от северозападната стена с малка потерна в нея и част от югоизточната стена, както и лека постройка, която е обслужвала нуждите на войниците при югозападната порта. Формата на разкритите кули е неправилен трапец. Зидовете на крепостта са градени с лицеви блокове и блокаж от местен ломен и речен камък споен с хоросан и са запазени до височина от 1.2 m. След преместваното на столицата на Римската империя от Рим в Константинопол през ІV в. земите на днешният град Средец попадат в земите на източната Римска империя.
